| Jan. 2001 - June 2005 | I taught Dutch Language and Literature within the two year International Baccalaureate Program (Standard and Higher Level), at the local international schools in Muscat (Oman), Haren (The Netherlands) and Aberdeen (UK) to Dutch 11th and 12th grade students. I designed and developed the curriculum, motivated and mentored my students who obtained an average mark of 6.6 (out of 7) for their final examinations on this course. Focus of attention were the analysis of literary works, writing, oral presentation skills, and the relation between language and culture, e.g. bilingualism, biculturalism, identity, and the different metaphorical frames of reference in various cultures. | ||
| May 2000 - May 2003 | Free lance translator English/Dutch and Dutch/English for the Omani Ministry of Information. I translated a number of non-fictional books and film scripts for the Ministry, often advising on internal consistency of works with multiple authors. | ||

We obtained a visa for a teacher, funding from multinational companies and the Dutch Foundation for Education Abroad (Stichting NOB), as well as approval of our program from the Dutch Ministry of Education | ||
| May 1986 - May 1987 | Deputy Head of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs General Department, Asylum Section. I actively contributed to the reorganization of the section that doubled in size due to a dramatic increase in asylum requests. I was involved in the recruitment of new staff, responsible for the training and quality of work of the Legal Officers, the day to day running of the section. In addition, I represented the Minister's view in complicated cases and was appointed secretary of the 'Interdepartmental Commission on Refugee Policy'. | ||
